Before Forge, when companies were understaffed, owners and operators typically began a lengthy process to hire new employees. They spent countless dollars posting on job boards, reviewing applications from unknown individuals and conducted interviews. Many of these businesses felt they were "fighting" with neighboring companies for top talent in the area.
This cycle caused many companies to expect high turnover rates and high budgets for hiring/recruiting each year, leading many of them to staff at or below 100% capacity to reduce overall cost.
In companies that were running at or below 100% capacity, shifts each week were perfectly scheduled so all employees work 25 - 40 hours with no extra wiggle room. Inevitably, when someone "called-out," went on vacation or became ill, the business had 0 leverage since they had no more available staff that was trained to work. Often they continued to operate understaffed, and saw both decreased employee satisfaction and customer satisfaction.
But Forge's "Share Talent" featured changed all of this.
Share Talent has allowed business owners/operators with similar skilled talent to "Share" with one another to expand their labor pools, optimize labor hours and reduce overall costs associated with hiring and being understaffed.
There are four main steps to sharing talent:
- Partner with a nearby Business
- Ask select Talent from their labor pool to join your labor pool
- Customize job positions, wage data and hour limits for the new employee
- Publish shifts (as you normally do)
In the next few lessons, we'll dive into how each of these steps works.
